Team CSP-SBI promotes the role of cycling in conservation

Recognizing a cycling-conservation nexus, CSP has recently become a principal sponsor of the Southwest Bike Initiative (SBI), a nonprofit that provides planning, design, and educational services to integrate cycling into transportation systems.

SBI promotes bicycling as a way to not only reduce transportation costs and improve public health but also to conserve resources and preserve landscapes, among other goals.

Team CSP-SBI will be a key outreach vehicle for the initiative. Led by Mark Aasmundstad, the team consists of people who share a passion for cycling — and for spreading the word about environmental solutions. A key component of Team CSP-SBI is a group of ambassadors who promote CSP’s work at cycling events and use online media to highlight our projects, programs, personnel, partnerships, and success stories. We hope to expand CSP’s influence by reaching out to broader communities, fostering new partnerships across sectors and disciplines, and increasing the relevance, visibility, and impact of our work. A Team CSP-SBI web site has already been launched to facilitate outreach efforts. In addition, team members — who will include high-profile athletes — will ride and race at cycling events wearing branded apparel.

We are excited to have Mark Aasmundstad, a long-time cycling educator and advocate, at the helm of this endeavor. The current New Mexico road race champion, Mark has placed first in competitions around the Southwest, setting course records in Arizona and Death Valley.
